Raymond and Fran paragraph - 1st Edit

Describe the character of Raymond and the dynamic between him and Fran.

In the novel, Chain of Hearts by Maureen McCarthy, the character Raymond has an interesting personality built by the author. The Author has formed Raymond to create the audience see him and Fran's decisions in a negative way. Fran and Raymond may have been first believed as a cute couple when Fran talks about bringing him to Amy's birthday dinner to Amy. Fran says many good things about Raymond leaving the audience considering him a loveable and handsome guy. “His name is Raymond. You'll love him. He's the most wonderful guy!... He's my change my whole attitude. I'm learning heaps just being with him!" p. 170. Raymond is perfect, he is handsome, and an Artist and he really likes Fran. But, there is a twist, although Raymond may sound like a lovely person, he is betrayed as being a rude man to Fran’s friend, Amy and her family. "'Yeah!' Raymond said dryly, looking away as though bored with the company already. 'Hi'" p. 180. The author has used dialogue to make Raymond sound impolite and an offensive person in front of Fran's family, embarrassing her terribly. Due to some other dramatics, Fran and Raymond’s relationship went downhill. With so much stress and embarrassment, suddenly had the ambition to kill him with blunt bread knife, "Get out of here! Now. Or I’ll kill you. I promise you. I will! I’ll kill you!" p. 192. Fortunately, Fran met Daniel that night when he was preventing Fran from making the worst decision of her life. Daniel being much a better option for Fran, she ended up in marrying him and leaving Raymond. "Daniel saw that Fran was trying to climb across the table and repeat the action with more force. He ran over to her and began wrestling the knife from her grasp." p.192. Fran realises her poor decision to invite Raymond to Amy’s party and sticks up for her friend and her family due to Raymond’s rude behaviour. In the end, Amy and Fran reflect on that day for many reasons other than Raymond. The author of Chain of Hearts, Maureen McCarthy, created the character Raymond in a way that made the audience think badly of the character and Fran’s decisions.

Raymond and Fran Paragraph - unedited

Describe the character of Raymond and the dynamic between him and Fran.

In the novel, Chain of Hearts by Maureen McCarthy, the character Raymond has an interesting personality built by the author in order for the audience to see Fran's decisions and his character in a negative way. Fran and Raymond may have believed a ps a cute couple as Amy talks about Fran bringing him to Amy's birthday dinner. Raymond is betrayed as a very lovable person in this brief description, "'His name is Raymond. You'll love him. He's the most wonderful guy!... He's my change my whole attitude. I'm learning heaps jus being with him!'" p. 170. Although Raymond may sounded like a lovely person, he was rude and dark in his humour. "'Yeah!' Raymond said dryly, looking away as though bored with the company already. 'Hi'" p. 180. The author has sculpted the speech of Raymond to make him seem like a rude person in front of Fran's own company although seems as though he is kind to Fran. Due to some other dramatics of Amy's birthday, Fran and Raymond went downhill causing Fran to go through so much stress and making her have the ambition to kill him with a blunt bread knife, "Get out of here! Now. Or ill kill you. I promise you. I will! Ill kill you!" p. 192. Fortunately at this Fran was lucky enough to meet Daniel who stopped her from making the worst decision of her life, and later becomes her husband. "Daniel saw that Fran was trying to climb across the table and repeat the action with more force. He ran over to her and began wrestling the knife from her grasp." p.192. This shows Fran sticking up for her best friend Amy and to realize that Raymond was not good for her. Maureen McCarthy, the author of Chain of Hearts used Raymond's intriguing personality to reflect badly on Fran's decisions in life and on the character himself badly.

Chain of Hearts Essay - Unedited Homework

In the novel, Chain of Hearts by Maureen McCarthy, the two characters Geraldine and Fran experienced many different events that have been held responsible for their miscommunication in their relationship as sisters. Sisterhood is stronger than of what friends could have as a sister, you have someone to relate to, someone just like you who is always there without meaning to. Geraldine and Fran have gone through so much together that have thrown them apart, by their difference in personalities and their love lives kept their separation strong through all these years.

The two characters are almost opposite in personality which shows a sense of avoidance between the two which has created problems between their relationship with each other. Geraldine's character is very small minded who is organized and plans future events that may or may not involve her family but her future family. Geraldine is self-obsessed and doesn’t like her appearance to get dirty and her social life to be ruined, believes Fran on page 114 “No, you wouldn’t have the patience, would you, because… because, well, your hair might get messed up, you might miss lunch witch one of your dickhead friends.” And her daughter Sophie on page 2 “my mother character traits – she was obsessive, mean minded, controlling and vain…” On the other hand, Fran is quiet and doesn’t seem to fit in with society where she only talked when she was called upon. Fran is unable to be forgetful of her past such as when she was humiliated by her teacher for not doing a certain aspect correct in art, first in the class. “the fact that he’d pulled out three or four other peoples work and given them the same treatment meant nothing. He’d done hers first, and even now, at the end of the year, she hadn’t gotten over it. For that time Fran had avoided his every look in case he decided to single her out again for another attack.” Fran is also unable to stick up for herself which is a problem as in Geraldine’s case; Fran does everything Geraldine wants and says other than having her own authority. This affected their relationship greatly. “… a silence in which Geraldine was telling her to remember that she had no right to lay down any conditions. A silence that reminded Fran just who stood on the moral high ground here. Fran thinks… why? Why do I buy into all that stuff? How come she still has that power over me?” A problem also between their relationships due to difference of personalities is when Fran is responsible for her family such as when she was to look after her father as he laid in his death bed and Geraldine did not help whatsoever, in fact Geraldine didn’t care as much and didn’t apologise for anything. This made Fran very upset. “Dad had a brother and two sisters still living and they were kind and supportive. Thank you Fran, they all wrote… but not a word from Geraldine. Not a word from her. Married to that rich, boring stuffed shirt, she had heaps more time on her hands than me.” (pg. 115). Geraldine and Fran avoid each other with absolute hatred as they have two different personalities which have created problems throughout the years of their relationship.

In other areas of their difference in personalities, they both had a different opinion and their love life also crossed against their relationship holding an everlasting grudge. Paul was to marry Geraldine the whole town was about the fabulous news; Fran was excited of their beautiful love like a normal sister would. But a night before the wedding Paul called it off upsetting the whole family as they sat down and pondered on why this could be. As Fran met Paul again, she finds that he was in love with her all that time. He wanted her not Geraldine. It was said that Paul and Fran were the same in personalities and people, as shown in the quotation, “So lively… so impatient with Geraldine’s smallness. Exactly how I was feeling. And our eyes met, didn’t they?... In answer to your question. I knew then that I absolutely shouldn’t marry Gerry…” (pg. 59). Paul felt the same way as Fran on Geraldine’s vain personality which caused Paul to change his mind and open his eyes to the one he actually wanted. This caused a big gap between the two sisters. Although this may seem as it is all Geraldine’s fault, it isn’t. Fran and Geraldine both hold the same opinion over each other and even though they are opposite. Opposites can attract and get along with each other. As to be sisters would be a splendid thing and to throw it away would be such a waste. It is believed that Geraldine and Fran should both forgive each other and restart. For Geraldine may only care for herself, she does care for her family shown on page 385, “… and I am suddenly filled with admiration for her. My mother is so dignified and friendly… I can see she is genuinely proud of her family” Sophie recalls. Their sisterhood may have been affected due to their love lives and difference from each other which did cause the grudge between the two.

Chain of Hearts by Maureen McCarthy displays the characters Fran and Geraldine as two sisters who hold grudges against each other. Their relationship is being torn apart at the seams as their personalities and love lives consistently increase the hatred for each other. But from aside their hatred, sisters can have the audacity to forgive and forget with willingness, Geraldine and Fran should be able to forgive each other mutually as deep down they still have a genuine love for each other.

Character Profile: Sophie (Written by Savanna Smith)

Sophie keeps to her self and does not like to share her feelings with anyone, and she has a lot of anger towards people because she does not communicate her feelings and let out her emotions effectively. Because of this she is very rebellious as she would rather go against the rules than face her problems and talk to people about them. She does not seem very nice at first but as the books goes on you can tell that she is just putting up a cold front to avoid talking to people. “its not the blue hair or the rings in her nose… But she has put on so much weight and her face is so sullen. She looks dead… her skin is sallow, and there is an ugly splotch on one cheek. The hair looks as though it has been hacked off across the top, the rest falling in rats tales around her face.”(p.93). This quotation shows how she looks and acts very rebellious this also could be perceived as how people view her personality.

Sophie’s relationships with others in the novel take time to be developed as Sophie takes a long time to warm up to people and for her to feel open with them. Her relationship with her family is very tortured and damaged. She feels like she can never live up to their expectations. “While I was laying there weighing up the various advantages of poison, knives and guns, the music that drove the rest of my family mad bounced of the walls, the ceiling and floor and pounded away in my head.”(p.3). This quotation highlights the relationship with her family and how she feels about them. Her relationship with Mai and Mihn make her feel like she can be herself and she is happy, because she doesn't have to impress them. “At the point I’d simply told myself I’d made a friend. I liked Mai a lot and now I was getting on famously with her brother and that made me feel good.”(p.150). This quotation helps the readers understand how this friendship makes her feel happy and free. Sophie’s relationship with her ex-best friends Alana and Jess always made Sophie feel like she was not included and she felt used by her friends and that she always had to pretend to be someone she wasn’t. Her relation ship with Fran was very distant at the beginning of the book and she starts to slowly develop and she and Fran both realizes that they relate to each other more than they think and they build a sort of friendship.

My Living Room Exercise

My Living Room Exercise

Sun Rays shining through the windows as the birds tweeted outside along with the calm breeze. Dark blue shades of material covered the lounge lined along the wall and travels out into an L Shape. A black screen centered in a corner on top of a warm brown wooden cabinet holding many secrets and devices for the black box. The flat, black box or square amplifies a noise of two humans speaking at an interview, laughing with the jokes that the short haired blonde can think of, giving them gifts of her famous name in gratitude of their appearance. Vanilla and lime cover the room with its intoxicating aroma hitting you as you walk through the metal sliding door. The walls are filled with the sky in its colour of a light blue. And a carpet of dreadlocked wool lays on the floor promising warmth once stepped on. The cold ice tiles line the room threatening to freeze any who do not sit upon the couch. A restless creature sits on the couch, looking up at you with beady eyes. The look that you could never say no to. It's multicolored in orange black brown and white blending in its soft fur. You sit on the couch and it pounces at you, licking every surface of your face and lightly cuddling up beside you, going to sleep. She skips to the woolen carpet, jumping onto the couch with a double bounce like a basketball. Not interrupting the family laughing with a roar of a lion. Watching the flat black box covering the wall where Ellen is interviewing a famous person called Chris Evans. Lucy enjoys the room, she loves how relaxing it is.

War
It is kind of scary to think if there was to be another war, imagine the bomb sirens, that would be creepy as. Imagine who it could be against? We could fight any country as you could only think what if, what if there was another war, what if it was against the Canadians?

Green
Listen up here's a story about a little guy that lives in a green world, and all day and all night and everything he sees is just green, like him, inside and outside. Green is his house with a green little window and a green corvette and everything is green for him and himself and everybody around, cause he ain't got nobody to listen to listen to listen to...

Wind
She laid there in puddles of salty tears and blood thinking that nothing can be as worse as this as the wind blew upon her stinging wounds. The moon alit upon her face as a muscular tall figure approached her. Her heart is pumping fast as the figure comes closer only to be a stranger, with metal in his nose and graffiti all up his arms.

Holidays
My god I cannot wait until holidays, camp move aside. I cannot wait to meet ruby, she has gotten so big lately, miss her like crazy. I can bake Pavlovas and get some Betty Crocker cooking mix and just bake all day everyday, so fuuuunnnn! I will be with the family and I cannot wait, I can go down the street, go wherever I want, do whatever I want and go to sleep whenever I want.

Gumboots
Moree was flooding, it was awesome as, and somehow a pair of gumboots appeared around my house, just casually. I put them on, grabbed my cat and walked through the water but the cat ran away so it was just me. Then suddenly I got this idea, how about I make a raft and float around the street. So I got my pool inflatable seat thingy and got some painting palets, whatever they are called and used them as oars. I went with the current and soon enough I was at my grandmas house.

Voices
Sometimes I wonder what it is like to be god, if he we're to read people's thoughts or prayers., it must be annoying sometimes. Just hearing voices in your head, people would think you were controlled by a demon. Just imagine Jesus in Bethlehem casually walking down the street shopping for fruit and he then shouts out because of a silly prayer in his head.
